Patterns of Arabia_
Patterns of Arabia is an experiment with creative packaging design to celebrate my heritage and showcase it in a contemporary form.
Sadu is a traditional art form of woven patterns, created by the Bedouins of Arabia for their tents and textiles. As the Bedouins settled in cities, they transitioned from living in Sadu tents to mud houses. They continued to preserve their art by carving and molding intricate designs on the mud houses, using one or two colors and featuring motifs similar to those found in Sadu. I tried to reimagine these art forms in packaging design, while maintaining their intricacy.
I managed to preserve the complexity of the traditional art form by incorporating layered designs that blend prints with laser-cut sleeves. The printed boxes feature a simple design with stripes or blocks of color. However, when the white laser-cut sleeve is placed on top, the design comes together revealing the full pattern.
