Mourid Barghouti_

Mourid Barghouti, a Palestinian poet and writer who spent most of his life in exile, yearning to return to his hometown of Ramallah. The cover represents Mourid’s legacy of written work. The words are scattered around the map of Palestine/Israel, but the center is empty, symbolizing that he created most of his work far from his homeland.

The timeline of key milestones in Mourid’s journey is meant to convey a sense of movement, as Mourid spent most of his life moving between countries. Given the themes of exile and separation from his family and loved ones many times throughout his life, I decided to make the timeline bolder with red lines and sharp angles connecting his work across different parts of the world. In the bottom left corner, I wrote a brief text explaining this theme in Mourid’s life. On opposite sides of the page, I included the phrase “From All Over the World” in both Arabic and English, honoring Mourid’s journey and resilience in creating a beautiful body of work centered in love, longing, and belonging, despite the personal hardships he endured.

I experimented with many quotes from Mourid's body of work in a few typographic spread.
